Hyderabad: The Telangana Health Department on Tuesday announced the appointment of principals and superintendents for all 34 government medical colleges and their affiliated teaching hospitals across the state.

While several colleges already had appointed heads in place, the remaining vacancies were filled through a Government Order (GO) issued by Health Secretary Christina Z. Chongthu. The order formalises the temporary promotion of a panel of 44 senior faculty members, including special grade professors and professors, as Additional Directors of Medical Education (ADME) and institutional heads.

The government has nearly completed the promotion process for 308 associate professors to full professors, which will resolve the shortage of department heads and senior faculty across government institutions.

The Health Department has initiated steps to promote about 278 assistant professors to associate professors. Since there was no possibility of direct recruitment for posts like Associate Professor, Professor, and Additional DME, these posts are being filled through promotions. The Medical and Health Services Recruitment Board had recently issued a notification to directly fill 607 assistant professor posts. In addition, the Finance Department has approved the filling of about 714 more posts. These posts will also be filled soon, reports the Hans India.

According to the Hindu, the list includes faculty from prominent institutions such as Gandhi Medical College, Osmania Medical College, and Kakatiya Medical College, among others. The appointed professors have been instructed to assume their new roles within 15 days.

Failure to do so, or attempts to delay by going on leave, will lead to forfeiture of the promotion as per Rule 11(b) of the TS State and Subordinate Service Rules, 1996.
