Telangana Govt to ensure Private Hospitals extend free treatment to poor

Hyderabad: A plea has been filed in the Telangana High Court alleging that some private corporate hospitals are allotted precious lands at prime locations of the city by the government at a less cost on the assurance that they would provide free treatment to the poor and reserve certain beds for them. However, the plea alleged that these hospitals failed to keep their promises once they became functional. 

The plea which was filed by Omim Maneckshaw Debara, a senior citizen from Hyderabad was being heard by two-judge bench of Chief Justice Ujjal Bhuyan and Justice Surepalli Nanda on Tuesday.

Further, Advocate-General Banda Shivananda Prasad submitted Government Order 80 (Health, Medical & Family Welfare Department) dated July 16, 2022, which states that Apollo Hospitals would extend 15% of beds and Basava Taraka Rama Rao Cancer Hospital would extend 25% of beds to the poor in distress. In addition to that, they would extend all medical needs, create OP counters at the hospitals, and provide free treatment for all ailments.

He added that the government would ensure that the two private hospitals would keep their promises in serving the marginalized. It was noted that the treatments by the hospital would be mapped to codes under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) and the pre-authorization, discharge summary, and submission of details bills would be provided for every patient under this scheme.
