Tripura: 25-year-old woman dies during Treatment, negligence alleged
Woman's Death in Teliamura Triggers Investigation
Agartala: In a tragic incident, a 25-year-old woman allegedly lost her life on Monday while undergoing treatment at Janapriya Medical Hall in Teliamura, sparking widespread public outrage and raising serious concerns about alleged medical negligence at the facility.
According to news reports, the deceased, a young mother, had visited a medical hall complaining of back pain. She was reportedly attended by a doctor who informed her that fluid needed to be urgently drained from her lungs.
Despite the facility lacking proper hospital-grade infrastructure, the doctor allegedly assured the family that the procedure could be safely conducted there. The family paid Rs 3,000 for the treatment. During the procedure, fluid was reportedly extracted from her chest using a syringe. However, within hours of being released, the woman's condition deteriorated rapidly. Despite signs of medical distress, neither the doctor nor the pharmacy staff reportedly took any action to assist her.
Her husband, an e-rickshaw driver, rushed her to the Teliamura Sub-Divisional Hospital, but doctors there declared her brought dead.

The incident quickly led to protests by local residents, who gathered outside the medical hall demanding immediate legal action. The situation drew the attention of local political leaders, including Chief Whip and Teliamura MLA Kalyani Saha Roy, who visited the site and strongly condemned the incident and called it a “murder in the guise of treatment.”

The woman’s body has been sent for a post-mortem examination, which is expected to determine the exact cause of death. Authorities have since launched an investigation into the incident. Police have confirmed that the doctor is currently absconding, and efforts are underway to locate him. His medical credentials are being verified, along with the legal status of Janapriya Medical Hall.
