UP: Dufferin hospital staff boycott work after death of pharmacist's wife

Following the rejection, Vipin's wife was in critical condition and was admitted to Dufferin Hospital on Tuesday. Her condition was not improving due to the unavailability of a doctor at the hospital so Vipin decided to shift her to a private hospital. However, she died while undergoing treatment on Wednesday night at the private hospital.

If the superintendent had approved his leave, Vipin said he would have taken care of his wife and she would have survived. As per HT reports, the medical staff continued the boycott till late afternoon.

In response to the accusations, Dr Sahu said that Vipin has never asked for leave, instead submitted a letter to shift her wife to another hospital. She said that her wife did not die in the Dufferin hospital and boycotting the work can cause problems for the patients.

"Some people are disrupting medical services as I have taken strict steps against wrong practices at the hospital," she said.

On the other hand, the hospital staff claimed that Dr Sahu misbehaves with them if they ask for leave. They said that emergency services continued without interruption despite the protests.

Taking action against Dr Sahu's behaviour, around 150 temporary doctors, nurses, pharmacists and other staff jointly sent a letter to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and the state health minister Jai Pratap Singh.

In the letter, they demanded action against the superintendent and warned that such behaviour would not be tolerated.
