Verify credentials! Delhi Medical Council warns hospitals against unqualified doctors, medical staff treating patients

New Delhi: Taking cognisance of the instances where unqualified/underqualified individuals and doctors are treating patients in many hospitals, nursing homes and other clinical establishments, the Delhi Medical Council (DMC) has directed all Hospital owners to check out the credentials of their employees.

Further, the Council has also asked the doctors visiting such hospitals or nursing homes to ensure that their patients are receiving medical care from qualified persons.

Issuing a Public Notice in this regard, DMC mentioned, "It has come to the notice of Delhi Medical Council that many hospitals, nursing homes and other clinical establishments using modern medical science (Allopathy) are employing Doctors/Medical staff who are either unqualified/underqualified or qualified in other branches for the treatment of the patients. This is against the law and a punishable act. Therefore It is requested that all Hospital owners to please check out the credentials of the employees."

"Doctors visiting such hospitals/nursing homes are also requested to make sure that your patient is under care of qualified persons only, since these doctors will be held responsible for any deficiency of services to their patients," the notice further added.


Apart from this, the Medical Council in Delhi has also advised all the hospitals, nursing homes and clinical establishments to check the facilities available to them before admitting patients. DMC also pointed out that the hospitals need to ensure that all the fire safety regulations are being complied with.

"Furthermore all hospitals, nursing homes and clinical establishments are requested to check the facilities available with them and admit patient accordingly only. Please make sure all regulations required by the law including the fire safety are complied with," added the notice.

Sharing a copy of the DMC notice on X (formerly Twitter), the Council President Dr. Arun Gupta wrote, "Please make sure you don’t employ unqualified persons or you don’t work in places employing unqualified persons. Adequate patient care and safety should be paramount for all hospitals/ nursing homes."
