Sehore: In another case of violence against healthcare professionals, a viral video has emerged showing a doctor on emergency duty at Ashta Civil Hospital in Madhya Pradesh's Sehore district being allegedly slapped and threatened with death inside his cabin after refusing to dispense medicines, citing hospital protocol.

According to the complaint filed by the doctor, he was on duty in the emergency department between 2:00 PM and 8:00 PM on June 26, 2026, when a young man arrived at the hospital seeking medicines. The nurse on duty reportedly informed him that routine medicine distribution was not being carried out due to a holiday.

The response allegedly angered the visitor, who began arguing with the nurse and demanded to meet the doctor on duty. He was subsequently directed to the doctor’s cabin.

The doctor alleged that the youth entered the cabin accompanied by another individual and insisted that the medicines be provided. After examining the prescription, the doctor found that it had been issued by Hamidia Hospital, Bhopal, and declined to dispense the medicine, citing hospital protocol. According to the complaint, the refusal led to a heated argument, during which the two men reportedly abused the doctor.

The complaint further states that a woman wearing a pink saree entered the cabin during the altercation and allegedly encouraged the others to assault the doctor before slapping him multiple times. The doctor claimed the slaps were forceful enough to displace his spectacles and that he covered his face with his hands to protect himself.

The doctor also alleged that the accused damaged medical equipment inside the cabin, including a stethoscope, blood pressure monitor, and pulse oximeter. Despite repeated requests to stop the disturbance, especially in the presence of other patients, the situation reportedly continued.

According to the complaint, the accused issued open threats as they were leaving, saying, "You are in the hospital right now; meet us outside... we will kill you." This threat caused panic among the hospital staff, and there was widespread outrage among the healthcare workers. The staff described the incident as a major assault on the safety of doctors, reports Amar Ujala.

Reacting to the incident, Dr Mohammad Momin Khan, Vice President of AIMSA (2023–26), former FAIMA Doctors Association member, and former President of the All India Students Union (2022–23), condemned the alleged assault in a post on 'X', saying, "This epidemic of violence against healthcare workers is spiralling out of control.

"Following the incident, the doctor lodged a written complaint at the Ashta Police Station. Based on his complaint, police registered a case against the woman and another unidentified individual under relevant provisions.

Meanwhile, the accused woman has also filed a complaint against the doctor, alleging misconduct.

Police have seized CCTV footage from the hospital premises as part of the investigation. Station House Officer Girish Dubey stated that investigators are carefully reviewing the recordings to establish the sequence of events. Further action will be based on the findings of the investigation and the available evidence.
