Visakhapatnam to get 400-bedded ESI super speciality Hospital by 2025
Visakhapatnam: The Centre has recently approved the proposal of building the city's second 400-bedded ESI super speciality hospital at a cost of ₹384.26 crores. The hospital is expected to be completed by January 2025.
Since Vishakhapatnam currently has one ESI hospital, the completion of the second hospital will relieve the workload on the existing ESI hospital. The patients will get proper medical treatment at the new ESI hospital. The hospital also aims to treat four lakh ESI beneficiaries.
Explaining more about the hospital, Union Minister of State for Labour Rameshwar Teli said "The hospital would be equipped with primary and secondary care medical facilities, emergency care, and specialised care for outpatients and inpatients. An operation theatre, a labour room, diagnostic services and facilities under AYUSH and super-speciality services will also be available at the hospital."
While answering a question asked by Rajya Sabha MP G.V.L. Narasimha Rao about the exact period required to complete the hospital, Teli said that the construction of the hospital has been planned to be completed soon. However, the target has been set for January 31, 2025, TH reports.
The Centre has sanctioned the budget for the construction of the hospital. Since suitable land was not made available by the State government, the Minister informed that the Central Government initially approved the construction of a 500-bed hospital in Visakhapatnam, but a 400-bed hospital was decided instead.

The Minister in his reply to Rao stated that 3.45 lakh workers are eligible under ESI coverage in the city and four lakh in the Visakhapatnam district. He also said that currently, the district has nine ESI dispensaries.
According to Rao, Besides serving ESI beneficiaries, this hospital will also provide medical attention and hospitalization to the local people in Visakhapatnam.
However, the Minister has not announced any information regarding the recruitment of required medical personnel which includes doctors, nurses and technicians at the hospital.
