Raiganj: The West Bengal government would send a proposal to the Centre for setting up an All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Raiganj and establishing a full-fledged cancer hospital in Jalpaiguri, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari said.
An All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) is already operational in Nadia district’s Kalyani.
Addressing a public event in Uttar Dinajpur district’s Raiganj, he said the proposed AIIMS would come up in the Diknagar area of the town.
“The West Bengal government has decided to send a proposal to the Centre for setting up an AIIMS at Diknagar in Raiganj,” he said at the event held after an administrative review meeting, PTI reported.
Setting up an AIIMS in North Bengal was one of the BJP’s assembly poll promises.
At the public event, the chief minister outlined the government’s healthcare infrastructure push in north Bengal and announced plans for establishing a full-fledged cancer hospital in Jalpaiguri.
