Woman dies at Jalpaiguri Medical College Hospital, family alleges negligence
Jalpaiguri: Allegations of medical negligence have emerged following the death of a 50-year-old woman who was undergoing treatment at Jalpaiguri Government Medical College & Hospital (JGMCH). The incident has triggered protests by her grieving family.
According to the news reports, the woman had suffered a fractured leg after slipping at her home on March 31. She was immediately taken to JGMCH by her son, where doctors plastered her left leg and discharged her after initial treatment.
Despite being treated, the woman continued to complain of leg pain even after a week. She was again taken to the medical college on April 7 for further treatment, where she was examined by doctors, advised to be admitted, and underwent surgery on the same day.

The tragic news led to a protest by the woman's family and relatives, who staged a sit-in demonstration outside JGMCH. The demonstration lasted about 30 minutes and was withdrawn only after Kalyan Khan, the medical superintendent-cum-vice principal of the hospital, assured them that an internal inquiry would be conducted into the matter.
Meanwhile, the family has filed an official complaint with the Kotwali police station, alleging negligence in treatment. Speaking to Telegraph India, Ranjit said, “We have also filed a complaint with the police. It is a blatant case of negligence on the part of the doctors and others, which is why my mother died.”
