Woman patient alleges sexual harassment at Kilpauk Government Hospital

Chennai: In a disturbing incident at the Government Kilpauk Medical College Hospital late Sunday night, a 24-year-old man was arrested for allegedly sexually harassing a female patient in the hospital's female ward.  

The accused who is a resident of Ranipet had come to the city in search of a job and had been staying on the hospital premises for several days. On Sunday night, in an inebriated state, he reportedly entered the female ward and attempted to misbehave with a woman patient. Sensing something was wrong, the woman began screaming, which alerted others in the ward. In response, the accused was apprehended by the patients' attendants and hospital staff before being handed over to the police.

The incident, which occurred in the female ward, has sparked concerns over security at the city’s healthcare facilities.

Police sources revealed that he was intoxicated at the time of the incident. He was subsequently arrested, produced before a magistrate, and remanded to judicial custody. This incident has raised serious questions about the security arrangements at government hospitals, particularly at Kilpauk Medical College Hospital, which serves as a prominent healthcare institution in the city.  

Leader of Opposition, Edappadi K. Palaniswami, condemned the state government for what he described as a significant security lapse. He took to social media to express his outrage.

As per a recent media report by DT Next, in a post, he referred to the sexual assault of the Anna University student and mentioned that there had been yet another incident inside a government hospital in Chennai, highlighting that there is no safety for women under the "Stalin-model government."
