ICMR bags UN Award for efforts in Non-communicable Diseases control
New Delhi: The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has been awarded the prestigious 2024 UN Inter-Agency Task Force Award for its significant contributions to advancing multi-sectoral action in the prevention and control of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) and mental health.
Union Health Minister J P Nadda announced on Wednesday, highlighting ICMR's role in supporting broader NCD-related Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The recognition from the UN serves as a catalyst for further enhancing public health policies in India. With non-communicable diseases on the rise, sustained efforts and innovative solutions are essential for improving health outcomes.

In his announcement, Nadda further expressed his delight at the recognition, noting that it underscores ICMR's innovative approaches to tackling pressing health issues. The award celebrates ICMR’s establishment of national centres for Assistive Health Technology, the promotion of sustainable assistive products, and the execution of the world’s largest survey on assistive technology.
According to the PTI report, Nadda tweeted, “Delighted to share that ICMR has been honored with the prestigious 2024 @UN Inter-Agency Task Force Award for outstanding achievements in advancing multisectoral action on the prevention and control of NCDs, mental health, and the broader NCD-related SDGs (sustainable development goals).”
This recognition highlights ICMR's innovative work in assistive technology, creating accessible, affordable and sustainable solutions that enhance the quality of life for individuals with non-communicable diseases (NCDs) and mental health challenges across India, he stated in the same tweet.
