UP: MBBS student at Private Medical College alleges ragging, FIR filed against 5 senior medicos

Meerut: A police complaint has been registered by a medical intern associated with Saraswathi Medical College in Hapur's Pilakhuwa against five seniors studying at the college for allegedly ragging her. 

As per a media report in the Times of India, the police filed an FIR against the five doctors following the complaint, and the investigation is presently ongoing. The complainant is a native of Ranchi.

According to the SSP of Hapur, Deepak Bukar, the intern told the police that five seniors of her college came to her hostel on the night of April 26 in a drunken state. The SSP said, "They asked her to come down and thrashed and abused her. The victim alleged that her head was pushed onto a wall."

As per a media report in the Times Now, she was assaulted and the accused are reported to have dragged her by the hair when she opposed them. The intern said that the accused beat her and tore her clothes as well. 

Further, the intern told the police that the accused doctors had been harassing her for five months now, and they demanded her organize a party for them.

The student said, "On Tuesday night around 8 pm, Anu Sihag, Ankita Choudhary, Mohit Agarwal, Navneet Tyagi, and Sarthak Singhal intercepted me near a housing society near the college. The accused tore my clothes and twisted my hand and smashed my head in the wall."

After getting out of there, she informed the college management. She then went to the police station and subsequently filed a complaint against them. 

A police officer told TOI, "She named a female doctor who ragged her in the hospital while the male doctors misbehaved. We have filed an FIR against all five. Their mobile locations are being tracked to verify the facts."

Deepak Bhukar, SP, Hapur said, "Prima facie, we have come to know about the girl being beaten up. The FIR mentions ragging. If the case of ragging is found to be true, then we will increase the sections. We are probing the matter from various angles."

Dr (Col) RC Purohit, principal of the medical college said that an internal committee has been formed to conduct an investigation into the incident and action would be taken on the basis of the report after that. As per a Times Now report, the principal said, "The matter has come to our knowledge. The girl do not reside in the college premises. We are probing the matter at college level. We have come to know that the girl had a dispute with other students who live in a hostel. Proper action will be taken in the case."
