Diabetes is the second cause of liver failure and transplantation in India. Type 2 diabetes is a chronic condition that impacts the way body metabolizes sugar. In diabetes, the body becomes resistant to insulin and it causes non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) when it is more it causes non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) leading to inflammation that creates scar tissue and end-stage liver disease. There are no symptoms of liver disease till it is too late. The patient is carrying this fatty liver disease without knowing that he is heading toward a disaster.
