Cancer MedTech Gets Clarity: CDSCO Releases Final Oncology Device Risk Classification List
New Delhi: In a significant move aimed at strengthening regulatory clarity for cancer related medical technologies, the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) has issued the final risk classification list for medical devices pertaining to Oncology, under the Medical Devices Rules (MDR), 2017.
The notification has been released as Appendix A and formally notifies the classification of oncology medical devices based on their intended use and associated risk under the Medical Devices Rules, 2017.
According to the notice, the classification has been carried out in exercise of the powers conferred under sub-rule (3) of Rule 4 of the Medical Devices Rules, 2017, following the regulatory framework that mandates risk-based categorisation of medical devices to determine the applicable level of regulatory oversight.
The list of medical devices pertaining to Oncology is placed in the attached Appendix A and it is subject to the following:
i. General intended use given against each of the devices, is for the guidance to the applicant who intend to furnish applications for manufacturing/import of medical devices under the Medical Devices Rules, 2017. However, a device may have specified intended use as specified by its manufacturer.
ii. This list is dynamic and is subject to revision from time to time under the provisions of the Medical Devices Rules, 2017.
