CDSCO Issues Risk Classification List for 187 Interventional Radiology Devices, Details
New Delhi: In a move to streamline regulatory oversight of medical devices, the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) has released the official risk classification list for medical devices used in interventional radiology.
The notification, issued on November 26, 2025, follows the draft list published earlier this year and has been finalized under the authority granted by the Medical Devices Rules (MDR), 2017.
According to the notice issued, the classification has been carried out under sub-rule (3) of Rule 4 of the MDR 2017, enabling the regulator to categorize devices based on their intended use and associated risk level.
As per the Medical Device Rule, 2017, medical devices other than in vitro diagnostic medical devices shall be classified on the basis of parameters specified in Part I of the First Schedule, into the following classes:—
(i) low risk-Class A;
(ii) low moderate risk-Class B;
(iii) moderate high risk-Class C;
(iv) high risk-Class D
The finalized list, provided in Appendix A of the notice, outlines the risk classification for various interventional radiology devices and it is subject to the following:
1. General intended use given against each of the devices is for guidance of the applicants who intend to furnish applications for manufacturing/import of medical devices under the Medical Devices Rules, 2017. However, a device may have a specified intended use as specified by its manufacturer.
2. This list is dynamic and is subject to revision from time to time under the provisions of the Medical Devices Rules, 2017.
