Alkem Labs Slapped Rs 2.34 Cr GST Demand in Goa

New Delhi: Alkem Laboratories Limited has received a demand order from the Additional Commissioner of Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST), Goa, under the Goods and Services Tax Act, 2017, raising a tax demand of Rs 2.34 crore along with an equivalent amount towards interest and penalty.

In a regulatory disclosure, the pharmaceutical company stated that the order has been issued for its Goa GSTIN for the period spanning 2019–20 to 2022–23. The total GST demanded amounts to ₹2,34,61,952, with an additional ₹2,34,61,952 levied as applicable interest and penalty under the provisions of the IGST Act, 2017, CGST Act, 2017 and SGST Act, 2017.

The company clarified that the order was received on January 21, 2026, and the demand primarily relates to allegations of excess availment of Input Tax Credit (ITC). Alkem Laboratories has stated that it does not agree with the findings of the tax authority and plans to contest the demand.

According to the disclosure, Alkem is currently in the process of taking appropriate actions, including filing an appeal against the order before the relevant appellate authority. The company has emphasized that it will pursue all available legal remedies to challenge the GST demand.

Alkem Laboratories further noted that the demand order does not have any material impact on its financial position, operations, or other business activities. The company reassured investors that the issue is not expected to adversely affect its ongoing operations.
