AP: Reactor explodes at GMFC labs in Anakapalli district, 1 dead, 3 injured

Anakapall: One person was killed and three others suffered burns after a reactor exploded at a pharma company in Anakapalli district of Andhra Pradesh.

The blast occurred at GMFC labs private limited at Atchutapuram Special Economic Zone (SEZ), Anakapalli district Superintendent of Police Gowthami Sali said.
As soon as the information was received, three fire tenders rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control. Nearby factories have been shut as a safety measure, as informed by Anakapalli district fire officer Lakshman Swami.

The deceased was identified as 27-year-old Ch Rama Rao of Eluppi village in Sitanagaram mandal in Manyam district. Three others injured were admitted to Anakapalle private hospital.

No more workers were injured except the four, according to Parawada DSP Srinivasa Rao.

Deputy Inspector of Factories V Suresh Babu informed TNIE that the blast took place due to generation of static energy in the pipeline carrying ethanol in block three of GMFC labs premises round 10.30 am as per preliminary information.

“ It took one and a half hour to douse the fire. We will investigate further to ascertain the root cause of the fire,” Suresh Babu said.
