Assam: Rs 3 crore bottles of illegal cough syrup seized, 2 arrested
Guwahati: In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, Assam Police have seized illegal cough syrup bottles worth Rs 3 crore and arrested two individuals in connection with the case, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Wednesday.
A total of 30,420 bottles containing codeine phosphate were seized from a vehicle intercepted at the Churaibari outpost, located at the Assam-Tripura inter-state border, PTI reported.
In July, as reported by the Medical Dialogues team, the Central Bureau of Narcotics (CBN), Lucknow Zone, recovered nearly 20 lakh tablets of controlled medicines and 5,700 bottles of codeine syrup in two-day raids in the state capital. During a thorough search of the premises, officials recovered illicit 18,47,850 tablets of Alprazolam, 2,19,778 tablets of Tramadol, 13,175 ampoules of Buprenorphine, 700 ampoules of Pentazocine, 1,770 tablets of Clonazepam and 5,700 bottles (38 boxes) of codeine-based syrup.

Earlier in July, the Central Bureau of Narcotics (CBN) also raided a house in Lucknow and seized more than 5,300 bottles of fake cough syrup along with the arrest of one. The accused lacked license, legal documents to store or sell these medicines.
