Chhindwara: In a serious safety alert, the District AYUSH Department has banned the sale, stocking, and distribution of seven Ayurvedic medicines after they failed quality tests, a move triggered by the suspicious death of a 5-month-old infant in Bichhua who had reportedly been given some of these formulations during treatment for cold and cough.

Authorities say all seven medicines were found to be NSQ (Not of Standard Quality), prompting an immediate crackdown across all hospitals, AYUSH centres and medical stores in the district.

According to officials, the samples were tested at a Gwalior-based laboratory, where each of the seven medicines failed to meet required safety and quality standards. Following this, the department issued strict orders directing every healthcare facility to remove the medicines from stock at once and submit a compliance report to the Core Team within two days.

The circular clearly states that any centre found possessing or using these banned medicines will face action, and the responsible officer will be held accountable. Strong legal proceedings will be initiated under the Ayurvedic Medicines Rules of 1940 and 1945, the order emphasises.

The seven NSQ Ayurvedic medicines include Giloy Satva, Kasamrit Syrup, Kamdhudha Ras, Praval Pishti, Mukta Shakti Bhasma, Laxmi Vilas Ras, and Kaf Kuthar Ras. These belong to multiple manufacturers, including Unit-II Shree Dhanwantri Herbals (Solan, Himachal Pradesh), Dabur India Ltd. (Sahibabad, Uttar Pradesh), and Shivayu Ayurved Ltd. (Aurangabad, Maharashtra), all identified through specific batch numbers mentioned in the test reports.

The action follows a disturbing incident in which a 5-month-old girl from Bichhua, treated with Kasamrit Syrup and other Ayurvedic medicines, developed severe complications and later died. Her family subsequently filed a complaint with the AYUSH Department, triggering the investigation and subsequent ban, reports Navbharat Times.
