New Delhi: Biocon Limited has entered into a global patent settlement and licence agreement with Genentech, securing launch timelines for Pebrilzo, its biosimilar to Perjeta (pertuzumab), a reference medicine used to treat HER2-positive breast cancer.

The agreement resolves all pending disputes between the two companies, including those in the United States, Canada and other jurisdictions, Biocon said.

Under the settlement, Biocon can launch Pebrilzo in the European Union and the United Kingdom in the first quarter of calendar year 2027. The biosimilar is expected to become eligible for launch in the United States in the third quarter of 2028.

In other Rest of the World (RoW) markets, launches are planned during 2026-2028, or earlier in certain circumstances, subject to applicable conditions. The companies have kept the other terms of the agreement confidential.

Pebrilzo contains pertuzumab, a monoclonal antibody that binds to the human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2). It is designed to inhibit the proliferation of tumour cells that overexpress HER2 and is used in the treatment of HER2-positive breast cancer across multiple disease stages.

Biocon's proposed launch schedule remains subject to regulatory approvals in the respective countries and regions.

The agreement marks a resolution of the outstanding patent disputes between Biocon and Genentech while establishing a timeline for the potential commercialisation of Pebrilzo across key global markets.
