Bystander Medical Representative Suffers Gunshot Injuries in Road Rage Firing, 5 Held, 2 Minors Detained

The incident occurred on Wednesday night in the Khadegolawali area of Kalyan in Thane city. The injured man, identified as Rahul Verma, was among a group of people who had gathered at the spot to witness the dispute when gunshots were fired. He is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital and is recovering from his injuries.

Police stated that Verma suffered gunshot wounds to his shoulder. Officials from Kolsewadi police station stated that he was fortunate as no vital organs were hit in the firing.

According to investigators, the dispute began on Wednesday evening when a resident who had recently purchased a new car got into an argument with a motorcyclist belonging to another group. The biker had allegedly ridden his motorcycle dangerously close to the newly purchased vehicle, triggering a confrontation between the two sides.

As the argument intensified, it developed into a violent fight involving members of both groups. Several local residents, including Verma, gathered at the location to watch the altercation unfold. During the clash, one of the accused allegedly pulled out a firearm and fired a couple of rounds. Verma was struck by the bullets and sustained injuries before being rushed to a hospital by other onlookers present at the scene.

Following the incident, Thane City Police launched an investigation and arrested five persons while also apprehending two minors in connection with the case. Police officers reached the spot after receiving information about the firing and took seven individuals from both groups into custody.

Investigators are now attempting to determine the source of the firearm allegedly used in the attack and are also verifying whether the accused have any prior criminal records.

The Indian Express reports that the shooting took place after a road rage incident spiralled into a gang-style brawl, leaving a medical representative who was merely watching the confrontation injured in the crossfire.

Police have registered two cases in connection with the incident and have recorded Verma's statement as part of the ongoing investigation. Further inquiries are underway to establish all aspects of the case.
