CDSCO Alert: 64 Drug Batches Including Metformin, Paracetamol Declared Not of Standard Quality in November
New Delhi: In a strong reminder of persistent quality concerns in India's pharmaceutical supply chain, 64 batches of drugs and medical products have been declared Not of Standard Quality (NSQ) by laboratories functioning under the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) during November 2025.
The flagged products includes life-saving injectables, oral solid dosage forms, syrups, suspensions and medical devices, underlining ongoing challenges in manufacturing compliance and quality assurance that have direct implications for patient safety.
The NSQ list includes commonly prescribed medicines such as Pantoprazole Tablets IP 40mg. manufactured by Metformin Hydrochloride Prolonged Release and Glimepiride Tablets I.P. manufactured by Suraksha Pharma,Telmisartan Tablets IP 40 mg manufactured by Bennet Pharmaceuticals, Bupivacaine Injection IP manufactured by Protech Telelinks, Diazepam injection IP 2 ml manufactured by Systochem Laboratories and etc.
The list further includes Pantoprazole Tablets IP 40mg. and Atorvastatin and Clopidogrel Capsules manufactured by Intas Pharmaceuticals and Pheniramine Maleate Injection I.P. manufactured by Sanofi India.
Anti Dandruff Shampoo with Conditioner manufactured by Morvin India Health Care is on the list of products declared to be Not of Standard Quality (NSQ).
The reasons for declaring products NSQ varied widely such as assay failures (active ingredient outside permissible limits), dissolution failures sterility test failures in injectables and infusions, particulate matter, pH and clarity failures, microbial contamination, non-compliance with IP 2022, IP Addendum 2024, USP, BP and manufacturer specifications, and others.
Drugs that fail to meet the quality standards or specifications are known as Not of Standard Quality (NSQ) drugs. The term ‘standards of quality’ is defined under Section 16 (1) (a) of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940, as ‘standards of quality’, meaning that the drug complies with the standards set out in the Second Schedule of the said Act.
