Lucknow: A routine inspection turned into a major accountability drive at Sitapur's Piswa Community Health Centre (CHC) after the district magistrate uncovered serious lapses in patient care, including delays in medicine distribution and negligence in multiple wards.

The spot check, meant to review basic functioning, instead exposed gaps significant enough for officials to issue notices to the chief pharmacist and staff nurse, making the incident a sharp reminder that frontline healthcare duties cannot be taken lightly.

During the inspection of the emergency unit, OPD, inpatient department, women’s ward, labour room, drug store, KMC unit and TB centre, District Magistrate Dr Rajaganapati R reportedly found that medicines were not being distributed on time and several service protocols were being ignored. As a result, chief pharmacist Daya Shankar, staff nurse Renu Devi, and family counsellor Ram Khushi were all served notices and asked to provide written explanations for the lapses.

Beyond individual accountability, the DM also directed the BPM and BCPM to ensure that meals and snacks were provided to admitted patients strictly as per the prescribed diet chart. He ordered daily bed-sheet changes, regular updates on the RCH and e-Kavach portals, proper display of duty rosters and maintenance of a register for referred patients. To assess on-ground service quality, patients admitted in different wards were questioned directly about their care experience, reports Amar Ujala.
