DoP designates OSD for Export Promotion Council for Medical Devices
New Delhi: The Department of Pharmaceuticals (DoP) has designated an official from the Engineering Export Promotion Council (EEPC) India as the Officer on Special Duty (OSD) to expedite the process of setting up the proposed Export Promotion Council for Medical Devices (EPC-MD).
This comes in wake of the Department of Commerce giving its approval for the creation of a separate Export Promotion Council for Medical Devices (EPC-MD) under the administrative control of Department of Pharmaceuticals (DoP) in order to drive the growth of exports of medical device sector. Accordingly, DoP has initiated necessary action towards establishing the EPC-MD.
Meanwhile, as concurred by Engineering Export Promotion Council (EEPC), Pallavi Saha, Joint Director, EEPC India is designated as OSD for the proposed Export Promotion Council for Medical Devices, to be nodal officer of contact and to carry out all the actions towards establishing EPC-MD, on consultation with Department of Pharmaceuticals, till regular functionary is appointed for the EPCMD.
As per the recent office memorandum issued in this regard, the Medical Devices sector in India is an essential and integral constituent of the healthcare sector, particularly for the prevention, diagnosis, treatment and management of medical conditions, diseases, illnesses, and disabilities. It forms an important pillar in the healthcare delivery system.
Medical Dialogues team had earlier reported that the new Export Promotion Council (EPC) for medical devices will be set up, with Headquarters in YEIDA, Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh, and regional offices in Andhra Pradesh (in AMTZ, Visakhapatnam) and Telangana (in Hyderabad).
This proposed Council will help exporters in promoting their products in international markets, through various promotional activities including organising/ participating in international trade fairs, buyer-seller meets, RBSM in India, etc., in line with the foreign trade policy (FTP) of India.
