Ghaziabad: Ghaziabad police have seized a large consignment of fake Liv-52 DS tablets being illegally supplied in the market and have initiated an investigation into the racket following a complaint by the manufacturing company. The counterfeit medicines, made to resemble the popular liver care formulation, were found circulating through unauthorised channels, raising serious public health concerns.

The matter surfaced after irregularities were detected in Liv-52 DS tablets being sold at a medical store. Suspecting the authenticity of the product, the issue was brought to the notice of the company. On verification, it was confirmed that the tablets were counterfeit and not manufactured by the original producer. Subsequently, the company lodged a formal complaint with the police.

During the investigation, police traced the supply of the fake tablets to a firm identified as NP Trading Company operating from the Muradnagar area of Ghaziabad district. On verification, the address provided by the firm was found to be fake. Further scrutiny revealed that forged drug licences and fake GST details were allegedly used to distribute the spurious medicine.

An FIR has been registered at Muradnagar police station, and police officials have started efforts to identify and arrest those involved in manufacturing and supplying the counterfeit tablets. Authorities are also probing whether the fake Liv-52 DS tablets were distributed in other districts or states, indicating a wider network.

The company stated that the counterfeit product poses a serious risk to consumer health and urged strict action against those involved. Police have advised chemists and distributors to verify sources carefully and immediately report any suspicious medicines to the authorities, reports News18 Hindi.
