Pune: Five faculty members from Bharati Vidyapeeth (Deemed to be University)'s Poona College of Pharmacy (PCP), Pune, have earned recognition in Stanford University's World's Top 2% Scientists List 2026, released on October 7.

According to a recent media report in The Times of India, the recognised faculty members are Atmaram Pawar, Varsha Pokharkar, Amarjit Rajput, S L Bodhankar and Amit Kandhare.

The Stanford University–Elsevier assessment draws on Scopus citation records available up to August 1, 2026. Researchers are evaluated using indicators including the composite citation score (c-score), h-index and research impact, covering 22 major disciplines and 174 sub-fields.

The report stated that the 2026 list includes 3,898 scientists affiliated with 1,185 institutions across India. Maharashtra accounts for 39 scientists, including seven from Pune. Of the seven researchers from the city, five belong to Poona College of Pharmacy.

The college has an A++ accreditation from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) and occupies the 34th position in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF). Its research output includes more than 1,800 publications in indexed journals and 32 granted patents.

TOI reports that the college’s faculty members have maintained a presence in the global top 2% scientists list since its inception. They have also received recognition in Sci Rank Global 2025 and Scholarly Index Global Top 1000, reflecting their sustained contributions to research.
