Mumbai: ICPA Health Products Ltd (ICPA) has recently introduced Wet Mouth, a saliva substitute for treating individuals suffering from xerostomia or commonly known as dry mouth.

One in every five individuals in the world suffers from dry mouth or xerostomia. It occurs when the salivary glands are not able to produce enough saliva to keep the mouth wet.

Dry mouth can cause difficulties in performing essential life activities such as tasting, chewing, swallowing and speaking. From the oral health point of view, it can increase the risk of developing cavities, tooth sensitivity, oral infections, and mouth sores. Dry mouth is found more commonly among older individuals due to a greater prevalence of medical conditions such as diabetes mellitus and many autoimmune diseases. Also, more than a hundred medications and cancer therapy are associated with salivary gland dysfunction leading to dry mouth. Xerostomia or dry mouth affects approximately 22 percent of the global population.

"ICPA's Wet Mouth contains Sodium Carboxymethyl Cellulose in a pleasantly flavoured base which helps enhance oral lubrication in the mouth and is an easy solution to overcome a dry mouth", the company stated in its release.

Regular use of Wet Mouth keeps the oral mucosa moist and lubricated. It reduces surface abrasion which helps patients eat, swallow and speak comfortably. Every 5 ml of Wet Mouth contains Sodium Carboxymethyl cellulose 0.5% w/v, Glycerine 30% w/v.
