Hyderabad: Officials from the Drugs Control Administration (DCA), Telangana, conducted a raid on the premises of a medical distributor in Kapra, uncovering a substantial stock of Insulin injections valued at Rs. 5 lakh.
The medical distributor, Sree Raja Rajeshwara Medical Distributors, located at Jai Jawan Colony, Kapra Village & Mandal, Medchal-Malkajgiri District, was found to be storing Insulin injections at room temperature, a condition that can lead to the degradation of insulin and loss of its potency, a DCA statement said on Saturday.
Insulin, being a temperature-sensitive drug, requires storage in a refrigerator at temperatures ranging from 2 to 8 degrees Celsius to maintain its efficacy. Storing insulin at room temperature poses a risk of potency loss, potentially affecting the health of diabetes patients and hindering their ability to control blood sugar levels.
The raid was conducted by officials such as K. Anil Kumar, Assistant Director, Serilingampally Zone; T. Shiva Teja, Drugs Inspector, Kapra; B. Govind Singh, Drugs Inspector, Secunderabad; and S. G. Anil Reddy, Drugs Inspector, Malakpet.
During the raid, V. Sarani, the proprietor of Sree Raja Rajeshwara Medical Distributors, was present. Further investigation is underway, and appropriate legal action will be taken against all offenders.
Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that in an attempt to eradicate the attempts of the firms manufacturing pharma products without a valid licence, drug authorities had conducted a raid at the premises of Golden Life Sciences Company situated in the SIDCUL area.
