Navigated explosion, toxic fumes, darkness to save life: Survivor of AP pharma unit disaster
Amaravati: P Mohan Satish, a 30-year-old survivor of the recent industrial disaster at a pharma unit in Atchutapuram, Anakapalli district, recounted his terrifying ordeal on Sunday. Employed with Escientia Advanced Sciences Pvt Ltd in the quality control (QC) department, Satish recalled how, at one point, he had lost all hope but managed to navigate through a deafening explosion, toxic fumes, and darkness to save his life.
Having recently married, Satish had just returned to his department after lunch when a powerful vapor cloud explosion ripped through the three-story building.
Discharging duties in the A shift from 6 am to 2 pm, he was waiting to handover work to his B shift replacement.
“I finished my lunch and entered the QC department by 2.10 pm to hand over the shift. Then, immediately we heard a deafening blast and there was a power cut. We rushed to the ground floor to escape but the entrance there collapsed and got blocked. There was no way to exit,” Satish told PTI.
