The issue of retail price fixation of Spray containing Diclofenac Diethylamine IP 2.32%, Methyl Salicylate IP 10%, Menthol IP 5% manufactured by Pontika Aerotech and marketed Intas Pharmaceutical under Para 5 of DPCO 2013 was analyzed at the meeting.

NSAIDs inhibit cyclooxygenase (COX)-1 and-2 which are the enzyme responsible for producing prostaglandins (PGs). PGs contribute to inflammation and pain signalling. Diclofenac Diethylamine is used to relieve pain and inflammation associated with musculoskeletal disorders, strain, sprain, arthritis, and low back pain.

Methyl salicylate is a topical counter-irritant used for the symptomatic relief of acute musculoskeletal pain in the muscles, joints, and tendons. Menthol is an organic compound used to treat mild to moderate muscle and joint pain.

At a recent Multidisciplinary Committee of Experts meeting, the panel noted that the retail price of the subject formulation has been given to various companies and the companies have submitted the form-V data to NPPA.

Based on Form V data the committee decided to recommend the retail price of spray containing Diclofenac Diethylamine IP 2.32%, Methyl Salicylate IP 10%, Menthol IP 5% manufactured by Pontika Aerotech and marketed by Intas Pharmaceutical.
