Sanofi India Faces Rs 23.74 Crore GST Demand Over Alleged Excess ITC Claim for FY23
New Delhi: Sanofi India Limited has received a Show Cause Notice from the Commercial Tax Officer (Audit)-6.1, DGSTO-6, Bengaluru, alleging excess availment of Input Tax Credit (ITC) for the financial year 2022-23 and proposing a tax liability of Rs 14.43 crore along with interest of Rs 9.31 crore, taking the total proposed demand to Rs 23.74 crore.
The company received the Show Cause Notice dated September 25, 2026, under Section 73 of the Karnataka Goods and Services Tax Act, 2017. The notice relates to an alleged excess claim of Input Tax Credit for FY 2022-23. The communication was issued by the Commercial Tax Officer (Audit)-6.1, DGSTO-6, Bengaluru.
According to the notice, the tax authorities have proposed a tax demand of Rs 14,43,01,828 along with interest of Rs 9,30,74,679. The combined amount of the proposed tax and interest is Rs 23,73,76,507. Sanofi India stated that it is currently examining the notice and is in the process of responding after receiving the relevant facts on the basis of which the demand has been determined.
Sanofi India said it is examining the Show Cause Notice in consultation with its consultant and tax advisors. The company will take appropriate steps, including submitting its reply within the prescribed period. It has also stated that it does not envisage any adverse impact on its financials, operations or other activities arising from the Show Cause Notice.
