Telangana: In a sweeping statewide crackdown, the Drugs Control Administration, Telangana, has issued show cause notices to 196 retail medical shops after inspections revealed various discrepancies.

The inspections were carried out on 17 November 2025 as part of a special drive to detect irregularities in retail medical shops across the state.

The special drive was conducted with prime emphasis on verifying the sale of Schedule H1 drugs, including higher-generation antibiotics and habit-forming drugs, and ensuring that retail medical shops dispense them only against a valid prescription issued by a Registered Medical Practitioner.

The inspections also emphasized the proper maintenance of registers, dispensing of prescription drugs under the supervision of a Registered Pharmacist, and verification of the sale of medicines by retail pharmacies in accordance with the revised GST slabs.

During the special drive, officers of the Drugs Control Administration detected several violations in 196 retail medical shops. The irregularities reported included the dispensing of Schedule H1 medicines without a valid prescription issued by a Registered Medical Practitioner; sale of prescription medicines in the absence of a Registered Pharmacist; non-maintenance or failure to produce Schedule H1 drug registers, sales bills, and purchase bills for medicines stocked in the retail medical shops; irregularities in maintaining copies of sales and purchase bills; and other related violations.

Show Cause Notices were issued to all 196 retail medical shops for the violations reported, and action shall be taken as per the provisions of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940, and the Rules made thereunder.
