New Delhi: The National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA) has agreed to Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Limited's request for notification of a per-gram retail price for its Diclofenac 2% Gel (Volini Maxx Gel), previously priced on a pack-size basis, to enable its launch in different pack sizes.

The Authority noted that existing retail prices for the notified 10 g, 15 g, 20 g and 30 g packs correspond to ₹6.25 per gram, and made its decision subject to the company’s compliance with the applicable provisions of the Drugs (Prices Control) Order (DPCO), 2013.

The decision came at the 285th meeting of the Authority overall, which was the 153rd meeting under the DPCO, 2013, held on October 29, 2026, where the extension of the per-gram retail price for Diclofenac 2% Gel to Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Limited was discussed.

The Authority noted that Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Limited, through its letter dated October 15, 2026, had requested notification of the per-gram retail price of Diclofenac 2% Gel. The formulation’s retail price had earlier been notified on a pack-size basis through S.O. 5638(E), dated November 2, 2018.

The company sought the per-gram price notification to enable it to launch the formulation in different pack sizes.

The Authority further noted that the existing retail prices correspond to an effective price of ₹6.25 per gram for the notified pack sizes of 10 g, 15 g, 20 g and 30 g.

After deliberating on the matter, the Authority agreed to the company’s request for notification of the per-gram retail price of “Diclofenac + Methyl + Menthol GEL (Volini Maxx Gel)”. The formulation contains Diclofenac Diethylamine BP 2.32% w/w, equivalent to Diclofenac Sodium 2% w/w; Methyl Salicylate IP 10% w/w; and Menthol IP 5% w/w.

The agreement was subject to the company’s compliance with the applicable provisions of DPCO, 2013.
