New Delhi: The Drugs Control Administration (DCA), Telangana, has uncovered an illegal operation involving the sale of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs) during joint raids conducted with the Prohibition and Excise Department in Prashanthi Nagar, Kukatpally. Authorities seized stocks of the antiviral API Zidovudine and related documents during the enforcement action.

According to the DCA, the raids were conducted on June 5, 2026, at various locations as part of a drive against unauthorized pharmaceutical activities. During the inspection, officials detected unlicensed sale of APIs by an entity operating under the name Synix Labs at NCS Complex, First Floor, Prashanthi Nagar Industrial Estate, Kukatpally, in Medchal-Malkajgiri district.

Officials found that the firm was allegedly carrying out activities related to the sale of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients without a valid licence, in violation of provisions of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act. During the raid, DCA officers seized 170 grams of the antiviral drug Zidovudine from the premises. Purchase and sale invoices relating to API transactions were also recovered and taken into custody.

The operation was carried out by Dr B. Lakshmi Narayana, Assistant Director, Medchal, and Dr R. Geethanjali, Drugs Inspector, Prashanthi Nagar, under the supervision of G. Srinivas, Deputy Director-I of the Drugs Control Administration.

The DCA stated that samples of the seized material have been collected and sent for analysis. Authorities said further investigation will be undertaken and legal action will be initiated against all individuals found responsible for the violations.

The administration emphasized that engaging in the sale of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients without a valid drug licence is a punishable offence under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act and can attract imprisonment of up to five years.

The DCA has also appealed to the public to report illegal activities related to medicines, including unauthorized manufacturing or sale of drugs, narcotic substances and psychotropic substances in residential, commercial or industrial areas. Complaints can be reported through the Telangana Drugs Control Administration’s toll-free helpline.
