UP Double Murder: Medical Representative Arrested for Killing Twin Daughters

Kanpur: A shocking incident has been reported from Kanpur, where a 48 year-old medical representative, Shashi Ranjan Mishra, has been arrested for allegedly murdering his 11 year-old twin daughters inside their apartment and was taken into custody from his residence soon after the crime came to light.

According to a recent media report by The Economic Times, police received a PCR call at around 4:30 am informing them about the deaths of two minor girls at a flat located in Kidwai Nagar’s Trimoorti Apartment in the Naubasta area.

Upon reaching the spot, officers found both children dead inside the apartment, while the accused father was still present there. The bodies were later sent for post-mortem, and forensic experts began collecting evidence from the scene.

Police officials confirmed that the accused has been detained and is currently being questioned. Initial observations suggest that he may have been mentally unstable, although the exact reason behind the crime is yet to be determined.

Authorities have recovered the suspected weapon used in the incident, and CCTV footage from the residence is being reviewed to piece together the sequence of events.

Investigators are also probing possible domestic issues, including personal suspicions and marital discord, along with other psychological factors that could have played a role.

The accused resided in Kanpur with his wife, who is originally from West Bengal, their twin daughters, and a six-year-old son. His wife informed police that he had been under emotional stress following the death of his mother and had shown signs of behavioral changes.

She further alleged that their relationship had been strained, citing ongoing domestic conflicts and changes in his conduct. However, police have stated that these claims are still being verified as part of the investigation.

During interrogation, the accused reportedly confessed to mixing sleeping pills in the children’s food before attacking them. Officials, however, emphasized that this statement is yet to be independently corroborated.

Investigators are examining all possible angles, including psychological distress and personal pressures, to understand what led to the incident.

A case has been registered at the Naubasta police station based on a complaint filed by the wife. Senior officials, including the Commissioner of Police, confirmed that multiple teams are working on the case, with forensic analysis ongoing.

The police stated that the motive behind the crime is still unclear and the investigation is progressing on all fronts, including mental health evaluation and family-related factors, reports The Economic Times.
