Uttarakhand: The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has arrested Anuj Kumar Singh, a partner in Kala Amb-based Digital Vision Pharma, in connection with a massive drug diversion case involving psychotropic medicines and codeine-based cough syrups worth over Rs 547 crore.

Singh, a 42-year-old resident of Roorkee in Haridwar, had been absconding since August 14 after ignoring NCB summons and was apprehended in Chandigarh.

According to the NCB, Singh’s company, in collusion with two Uttarakhand-based pharmaceutical manufacturers, allegedly diverted around 21.88 lakh psychotropic tablets, 10.57 lakh bottles of codeine syrup, and nearly 1,002 kg of psychotropic raw material to non-existent firms operating across Punjab, Rajasthan, and West Bengal. The agency said the illegal diversion was carried out under the guise of legitimate trade, spreading across seven states over 11 months. So far, 15 individuals have been arrested in connection with the case.

Investigators revealed that Singh had earlier worked as the general manager at Digital Vision Pharma in 2020, when the firm came under scrutiny after 12 infants died in Jammu and Kashmir allegedly due to adulterated cough syrup Cold Best-PC. He later became a partner in 2022 and is also named in another FIR registered at Ram Nagar police station in Jammu and Kashmir in the same year.

According to The Indian Express report, Singh is currently in five-day police custody for further interrogation.
