Drug Addiction Pushes BPharm Student into Theft Spree, Held in Chhattisgarh

New Delhi: A BPharmacy student in Chhattisgarh's Korba district has been arrested for allegedly committing multiple thefts to fund his drug addiction and personal pleasures, with police revealing that he targeted houses and shops to sustain his lifestyle and recover money spent on intoxicants.
According to police, the accused had developed a habit of consuming intoxicants and required continuous funds to support his addiction. Unable to manage his expenses, he allegedly resorted to theft as a means of income.
Investigations revealed that the student was involved in a series of thefts in the area, stealing cash and valuables from multiple locations. The stolen money was reportedly used both for purchasing drugs and for personal enjoyment.
Police initiated a probe after receiving several complaints of theft and eventually traced and arrested the accused. During interrogation, he confessed to the crimes and admitted that addiction and financial needs drove him to commit the offences.
Authorities also recovered stolen items from his possession, linking him to multiple theft cases in the region. Further investigation is underway to determine the full extent of his involvement and whether others were part of the activities, reports Patrika.
The case has raised concerns about increasing substance abuse among students and its connection to criminal behaviour. Police have urged families and educational institutions to remain alert and address issues related to addiction at an early stage to prevent such incidents.
