PCI Urges State Pharmacy Councils to Mandate Rational Use of Medicines Course for Registration Renewal

New Delhi: The Pharmacy Council of India (PCI) has once again urged all pharmacy institutions, pharmacy students, registered pharmacists, State Pharmacy Councils and other stakeholders to register for the E-Learning course on "Rational Use of Medicines in India", jointly developed by the PCI, Translational Health Science and Technology Institute (THSTI) and the World Health Organization (WHO) India Country Office.

Issuing a circular dated May 26, 2026 (Ref No: 14-436/2026-PCI), PCI Registrar-cum-Secretary Anil Mittal stated that the directive is in continuation of the Council’s earlier circular dated October 18, 2024 regarding the same course.

The Council has requested stakeholders to complete registration through the Learning Management System (LMS) portal of THSTI. The registration flow process had already been shared earlier as Annexure-I along with the previous PCI circular.

The PCI further directed all State Pharmacy Councils to make the course mandatory under their Continuing Education Programme (CEP) for renewal of pharmacist registration.

According to the earlier PCI circular issued in October 2024, the online course on Rational Use of Medicines was launched on April 30, 2024 through the LMS portal of THSTI in collaboration with Biotechnology Research Innovation Council (BRIC)-THSTI and WHO India Country Office.

The course is available through both online mode and a mobile application. Pharmacists can access the LMS portal through: https://lms.thsti.in/

The flow process for the registration ofthe course on Learning Management System (LMS) portal is as under:

  • Open the LMS official website (https://lms.thsti.in)
  • Click on the registration tab in left upper corner.
  • After clicking, the registration form will appear on the screen. Please fill all relevant information in the form.
  • After the successful verification by the Pharmacy Council of India (PCI), user can enrol for the Rational Use of Medicines course on LMS.
  • User have to complete all the modules step by step of Rational Use of Medicines to complete the course.
  • After completion of the course, the user must attempt the exit assessment.
  • After qualifying the exit assessment, participants will be awarded with a ‘Certificate’.
