Co-prescribing pre-and probiotics mitigates the potential side effects of long-term PPI use, survey on 1000 plus doctors concludes.
Published in the latest December issue of JAPI, the survey included 1007 healthcare professionals (HCPs) nationwide, followed by 4 PAN India round table meetings.
With this, the doctors aimed to establish a consensus on the national pattern of PPI prescription and disseminate evidence-based recommendations for utilization of probiotics as an adjunct to PPIs.

Based on consensus results, panellists recommended five commandments.
Level 1 and Level 2 commandments were defined on HCP agreements >50% and 30-50% respectively.
A notable consensus emerged among contributors bringing out that co-prescribing pre- and probiotics with PPIs could yield favorable outcomes; thereby enhancing overall Quality of Life (QoL) of patients.
