The accused was arrested late Saturday night in Kanchan Nagar, Shuklaganj, Unnao, along with his ex-wife. According to police, the accused posed as a judicial officer (ADJ) from Sitapur and lured the woman through a matrimonial advertisement placed by her father. Claiming his father was undergoing treatment in Bengaluru, he promised to marry her once his father recovered.

Under the pretext of purchasing a luxury car, the accused allegedly persuaded the nursing officer to take a loan of ₹59.5 lakh. On September 7, after the loan amount was credited to her account, she met him at Charbagh and later at Jhakkarkati bus stand in Kanpur. They visited a temple and watched a movie together, after which the accused claimed to feel unwell and disappeared without a trace.
Realizing she had been conned, the nursing officer filed a complaint at Colonelganj police station, prompting an extensive investigation. During a raid on Saturday night, the accused and his ex-wife attempted to resist arrest by unleashing their two pet dogs on the police. However, both were taken into custody.
Investigations revealed that the accused is a serial conman with a long history of fraud. He had previously impersonated high-ranking officials, including IAS, IPS, and ADJs, and used matrimonial platforms to target women. He would gain their trust, manipulate them emotionally, and then defraud them of large sums of money — often citing investments in land or luxury cars.
According to the investigation, he had previously been jailed in Lucknow for cheating and raping a woman. In another tragic instance, a woman committed suicide after being deceived by him. Despite being divorced, he continued to live with his ex-wife, who is now under investigation.
DCP Central Shravan Kumar Singh confirmed the case and mentioned that investigations are currently underway to identify additional victims. Authorities have recovered ₹42.50 lakh in cash, a luxury car, a forged ID card, and a Kanpur Bar Association identity card from the suspect's possession.

Speaking to TOI, DCP said, "Two cases were lodged against him in Kanpur Nagar and one in Lucknow's Hazratganj Kotwali. To track him down, nearly 380 CCTV cameras were scanned. A reward of Rs 50,000 has been announced for the police team that uncovered the crime."
