Hyderabad: In a shocking incident, a 25-year-old nurse at a private hospital in Telangana has been arrested for allegedly killing her parents by injecting them with an overdose of sedative drugs after they opposed her inter-caste marriage.

The incident occurred on January 25, 2026, in Yacharam village of Bantwaram mandal in Vikarabad district and has sent shockwaves through the local community.

The accused reportedly used her nursing training and access to medical drugs to carry out the crime. Police said she injected her mother, Lakshmi (54), and father, Dasarath (58), with a high dose of a sedative drug Artacil, claiming it was meant to treat body pain. Both parents lost consciousness and were later declared dead at a hospital, TNIE reported.

According to The New Indian Express, she worked as a nurse at a private hospital in Sangareddy and had easy access to injectable medicines. Police said she had been in a relationship with a man she met on social media. However, her parents strongly opposed the relationship as he belonged to a different caste. Frequent arguments at home had reportedly increased tensions over the past several months.

Investigators believe she allegedly planned the killings, assuming her medical background would help her avoid suspicion. On the night of January 24, she reportedly injected both parents with the sedative. After they collapsed, she informed her brother, who rushed them to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared them dead on arrival.

Suspicion arose when police found used syringes and other medical supplies during an inspection of the house. Further investigation and questioning reportedly revealed her involvement in the deaths. Medical reports also confirmed the presence of toxic substances in the bodies.

“The accused was upset over her parents’ opposition to her relationship. In a fit of anger, she took this extreme step. We are investigating how she obtained the poison and syringes. Strict legal action will be taken,” Sub-Divisional Police Officer N Srinivasa Reddy told NDTV.

The daily further reported that police have registered a case of double murder. She was arrested and produced before a magistrate, who remanded her to judicial custody. Officials said investigations are ongoing to determine whether anyone else was aware of the plan or involved in the crime, and her phone records and contacts are also being examined.
