A recent study has mentioned that Women receiving estetrol 15 mg have reduced vaginal atrophy. They also added that Estetrol 15 mg reduces the intensity score for vaginal dryness and dyspareunia.

The study has addressed the benefits of using hormone estetrol 15 mg once daily for managing menopausal symptoms other than vasomotor symptoms. This research is published in MENOPAUSE.

Estetrol 15 mg was associated with estrogenic effects in the vagina and a reduction in atrophy signs, according to them.

Researchers in this study reported the effects of Estetrol on the vaginal epithelial cell maturation index and maturation value, genitourinary syndrome of menopause score and the Menopause Rating Scale to assess health-related quality of life using estetrol 15 mg.

The research summary includes the following considerations:

  • The study had 257 postmenopausal women with a mean age of 54.2 years.
  • The doses of estetrol 2.5 mg, 5 mg, 10 mg,15 mg and placebo once daily for 12 weeks were assigned to 52, 47, 54, 49 and 55 women, respectively.
  • The decrease in parabasal and intermediate vaginal epithelial cells among those receiving estetrol 2.5 mg, 5mg, 10 mg and 15 mg was –12.3 and –7.6, –20.7 and –11.9, –15.6 and –21.8, and –23.4 and –13.4, respectively.
  • There was an increase in superficial cells with values of 19.9, 32.6, 37.4, and 36.8, respectively.
  • Women on estetrol 15 mg had a least square mean change of –10.81%, -20.96 % and 34.17 (increase) in parabasal, intermediate, and superficial cells, respectively.
  • 15 mg estetrol 15 mg decreased the least square mean intensity score for vaginal dryness and dyspareunia.
  • Using estetrol 15 mg had fewer reports of vaginal dryness by 41% and reports of dyspareunia by 50%.

Concluding further, they wrote, There was an overall decrease in Menopause Rating Scale score by a least square mean of –3.1 with estetrol 15 mg and across other estetrol doses was associated with a decreased frequency and severity of vasomotor symptoms.

We found that Estetrol 15 mg has benefits in relieving postmenopausal symptoms in women, which is a cause of distress among them.
