The four suspended assistant surgeons were found absent during the visit of senior officers of the health department to cyclone-affected Puri district


Bhubaneswar:  Odisha government has placed four doctors of Puri district under suspension for dereliction of duty who were found absent during post-cyclone Fani period.


The four suspended assistant surgeons were found absent during the visit of senior officers of the health department to cyclone-affected Puri district, said a health official.

These four doctors were absent while senior Health Department Officers were supervising the health care service being provided in the district in the post-cyclone situation.


The government is giving top priority to health care services in Puri district ravaged by the extremely severe cyclonic storm Fani.

While senior officers of the department are frequently visiting the district to ensure that no epidemic breaks out in the cyclone-ravaged area these doctors were found absent in their duty.


The state government also transferred three medical officers of Odisha Medical and Health Services (OMHS) cadre, reports IANS

Earlier, Medical Dialogues had reported that the Odisha government suspended Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO) of Rayagada, Siva Prasad Padhi, for not joining duty despite the government’s order cancelling holidays of all employees in the Health Department in view of the cyclonic storm Fani.


The state government had earlier cancelled the leaves of all the doctors and employees in the Health Department till May 15. Chief District Medical Officers (CDMOs) were directed to monitor the situation in hospitals. The government had earlier stated that strict action would be taken against senior officials who do not report for duty during the period of emergency.
