Bhubaneswar: The former Director of Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR), Dr Aswini Kumar Pujahari has joined politics and is planning contest the upcoming coming 2019 General Elections. The doctor joined Congress Party and is aspiring a ticket for Sambalpur Lok Sabha seat, a constituency in western Odisha.
According to media reports, Dr Pujahari joined the party in the presence of Congress State President Niranjan Patnaik and All India Congress Committee (AICC) temporary in-charge of Odisha, TS Singhdeo at Congress Bhawan.
The Medical Dialogues team reported last year in December that the doctor was accused of unethical clinical practice and misconduct. A video went viral where the doctor was seen pouring edible table salt inside a man's body following a surgical incision. The four-member inquiry committee investing the charges against him submitted a report to the government based on which the doctor was found guilty and asked to go on leave until he replies to the show-cause notices sent to him by the government regarding his actions.

Dr Pujahari later sent his resignation to the Governor Professor Ganeshi Lal, reports Orissa Post.
In a conversation with TOI, Dr Pujahari explained his motives behind joining the politics. He claimed that he always raised voice against the bad practices at VIMSAR.
He told the daily, "My sole objective was to maintain discipline, streamline healthcare system for the patients and end corrupt practices at VIMSAR. I drew wrath of many when I objected the irregular and delayed arrival of some doctors at the hospital. When I tried to improve the system, the government did not support me. I hope that by joining politics, I can fight against corruption."
"I had also received joining offer from BJP. But I chose Congress," he further added.
