Chandigarh: Two working medicos at Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGI), Chandigarh were conferred laurels at the recently held 58th annual conference of the academy at Mahatma Gandhi Medical College and Research Institute (MGM), Puducherry. While one doctor, the additional professor at PGI medicine department was given a fellowship in Rheumatology, An Associate professor at the Department of Oral Health Science Centre was awarded the prestigious Dr SS Sidhu Award, 2018

This award was instituted in the year 2013 through a donation by Dr. S.S. Sidhu, FAMS for best published/unpublished research work in the field of Orthodontics and Maxillofacial Orthopedics by a clinical investigator. The award is in the form of bronze Medal and cash prize out of income from the endowment fund.

Dr Aditi Kapur from PGI was conferred the award for her research paper, “Guiding the Child’s Teeth with Class III Dental Mal-occlusion into Correct Occlusion: A Clinician’s Parenting.” She also received cash, scroll and a commemorative medal at the conference.

Dr Kapur is an Associate Professor at the Department of Oral Health Science Centre.  She completed her graduation in BDS from Maulana Azad Medical College, Delhi University in 2000. After this, she did her post-graduation in MDS from PGIMER Punjab University, Chandigarh in year 2004.  She is specialized Pedodontics & Preventive Dentistry.  She is also a member of Indian Society of Pedodontics & Preventive Dentistry and Indian Dental Association. Her area of interest lies in Dental Sedation, Pediatric Endodontics, Pediatric Aesthetic Dentistry, and Dental Traumatology. Her plan for future is to actively participate in clinical work, research and teaching for ongoing professional development. She aspires to start a specialized dental OPD for the developmentally disabled children and also to start a fully fledged independent dental operatory for pediatric dental sedations.

Another PGI professional, Dr Aman Sharma, an Additional Professor at the Department of Internal Medicine, at PGI was awarded a fellowship of the National Academy of Medical Sciences in rheumatology, reported The Tribune.
