New Delhi: Union Health Minister JP Nadda said the image of the private healthcare sector is at stake and that it should adopt a self-regulatory system to improve their credibility.

"Private healthcare sector's image is on a stake. Their credibility has to be seen and they should go for a self-regulatory system. A common man's aspiration should also be taken care," Nadda said while addressing 14th India Health Summit here.

He added that the issue has to be resolved by improving communication within the organizations.

"We have to have a regulatory mechanism. I have written letters to all the chief ministers to look into the matter," Nadda further said.

The 14th India Health Summit was organized by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).

Medical Dialogues team had earlier reported that union health minister J P Nadda urged the states to implement the Clinical Establishment Act for regulation of private healthcare institutions, in the backdrop of cases of alleged medical negligence and overcharging by private hospitals.

The Clinical Establishments Act has been enacted by the Centre to provide for registration and regulation of all clinical establishments in the country with a view to prescribing the minimum standards of facilities and services provided by them.
