Punjab minister to probe irregularities in nursing and dental colleges

Anil Joshi, Punjab’s medical education and research minister, is likely to take immediate action against the state’s nursing and dental colleges. Joshi has observed infrastructure deficiencies and irregularities in the said colleges.

Joshi is reported to have formulated a team consisting of professors of Government Medical College, Patiala, to probe the matter further. The team will conduct checks and prepare a list of colleges which are noted defaulters.  A written report will be submitted by the team to the minister later.

A show-cause notice to the colleges will be issued as per the directive of the minister, giving a warning to mend their ways, as confirmed by HT.

Disclosing this here today, Joshi said parents of some students brought to his notice that many dental and nursing colleges were lacking in infrastructure facilities such as laboratories, practical training and teaching staff, as reported by Tribune.

Some colleges had even defaulted on fees to be deposited with the university concerned for affiliation. The minister said such colleges would be strictly dealt with.

He said it had come to his notice that the inspecting teams of Accountant General (AG) were not allowed to enter the colleges.
