RIP: Padma Vibhushan Cardiologist Dr BK Goyal passes away

Mumbai: Renowned cardiologist Dr B K Goyal and recipients of national honours including Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan, Padma Vibhushan passed away today after suffering a cardiac arrest in the Mumbai.


Dr Goyal 82 years, suffered a cardiac arrest while at his residence in Mumbai. He was rushed to Breach Candy hospital where he was declared dead.


Dr Goyal was the Honorary Dean and chief cardiologist at the Bombay Hospital Institute of Medical Sciences and a former Director-Professor of cardiology of JJ Group of Hospitals and Grant Medical College, Mumbai. He was also an Honorary Consultant Cardiologist to the Texas Heart Institute at Houston, USA.


The State Government also honoured him by appointing him as the Professor Emeritus of Cardiology at the Grant Medical College. He served as a member of the Executive Council and Senate of the University of Bombay for several years. He was a member of the Central Council of Health and Family Welfare of the Government of India and also the Medical Council of India.


Dr Goyal was conferred with Padma Shri in 1984, Padma Bhushan in 1989 and Padma Vibhushan in 2005. He was also proposed for the post of President of India by the All India Medical Council in March 2012.


The final rites of the Dr B K will take place on Wednesday in Banganga.
