Chandigarh: The Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar has ordered to suspend the two Registrar and Sub-Registrar (Birth and Death) of Palwal Municipal Council from their services after it became public that the two officials were fudging the data on female child births in the area

The minister has also stated that the strict disciplinary action will be taken against the two.

“The Chief Minister has ordered their suspension. Now, the health department will find out the Deputy Director, who was handling birth and death record wing in April when the sex ratio figures were prepared,” said a senior officer while speaking to The Indian Express

According to recent media reports, the Registrar and Sub-Registrar (Birth and Death) of Municipal Council, Palwal, had provided data in March this year as per which 1,217 girls for 1000 boys were shown as born in the council area, but the office of Director General, Health Services, Haryana-cum-Chief Registrar (Births and Deaths), recorded the birth of 950 girls for 1,000 boys in the state, reports IANS

“The Palwal MC officials were responsible for fudging the figures in Palwal, while the officers posted at state headquarters of health department were responsible for the Narnaul episode,” added the officer.

Health Minister Anil Vij in May had ordered a probe into the reported manipulation of figures of the child sex ratio in some districts of Haryana.

“The Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao campaign was effectively launched in May 2015 and by the end of 2015 the sex ratio had gone up to 876. In 2016, it touched the mark of 900, while it’s 909 for first eight months of this year,” Rakesh Gupta, Additional Principal Secretary to the CM told Express.
