Shakuntala Gamlin lays foundation of National Institute of Mental Health Rehabilitation in Madhya Pradesh
It will promote mental health rehabilitation using an integrated multidisciplinary approach, to undertake capacity building and to involve in developing trained professionals in the area of mental health rehabilitation.
New Delhi: The Secretary of Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities at Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment Shakuntala D Gamlin laid the foundation stone of the 'National Institute of Mental Health Rehabilitation' at Sherpur village along Bhopal-Sehore highway, Sehore district of Madhya Pradesh on Sunday.
This Institute will be first of its kind in the country. The Centre has approved an outlay of Rs 180 crore for this project for an initial period of three years. The land for this institute measuring about 25 acres was allocated free of cost by the Madhya Pradesh government in October 2018, an official statement here said.
The Medical Dialogues team has earlier reported in last year October that the Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi had approved, in partial modification of the earlier decision taken in the establishment of National Institute of Mental Health Rehabilitation(NIMHR) in Sehore District (Bhopal-Sehore highway) instead of Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh.

Earlier in the Union Cabinet approved the establishment of National Institute of Mental Health Rehabilitation (NIMHR) at Bhopal as a Society under the Societies Registration Act, 1860 under the aegis of the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities.
The main objectives of the NIMHR are to provide rehabilitation services to the persons with mental illness, capacity development in the area of mental health rehabilitation, policy framing and advanced research in mental health rehabilitation.
